Egyptian Birth Certificate for Children Born Abroad
Egyptians residing outside Egypt can register their newborns and obtain an official computerised Egyptian birth certificate through the Egyptian diplomatic or consular mission in their country of residence, or by granting power of attorney to someone in Egypt. Processing takes 6 to 8 weeks.
Required Documents:
- Original foreign birth certificate with a certified Arabic translation (if not in Arabic), authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country of accreditation
- Original and copy of both parents’ passports
- Original computerised Egyptian marriage certificate, or original foreign marriage contract authenticated by the foreign affairs ministry in the country of accreditation and the Egyptian mission
- If one parent is non-Arab: a certified Arabic translation of their passport, and of the birth certificate and marriage contract if not in Arabic
Important notes:
The diplomatic mission forwards documents to the relevant Egyptian authorities as quickly as possible.
The birth certificate is only released to one of the parents upon presentation of the receipt. A power of attorney can be granted at the mission to have someone in Egypt process the certificate on your behalf.
The paternal uncle, aunt, or grandfather may apply without a power of attorney.
